Royal Marsden Partners Cancer Strategy for North West and South West London
We supported RM Partners, the West London Cancer Alliance, to produce their cancer strategy for 2021-25.  It set out a set of ambitious strategic delivery programmes that support recovery from covid-19, address inequalities and variation, deliver earlier diagnosis and personalised care whilst working at the forefront of innovation.  The strategy was well received by both ICS Boards.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals Clinical Speciality Strategies
Working with all 34 specialities in this large, multi-site acute Trust, we developed individual speciality strategies as the bedrock of a new clinical and site strategy.  There was wide engagement, with workshops for all the specialities.  These speciality reports have provided a clear understanding of the Trust’s key strategic themes and we are now supporting the Trust to use them to develop a strategy for each of its hospital sites.

Frimley ICS Children and Young People Review and Plan
Recognising the increasing challenges facing children and young people, we supported the Frimley system to strengthen its support by undertaking a participative review to understand their greatest challenges and agree priorities.  The resultant system transformation plan was well received at the first meeting of the ICB in July 2022.

Slough Place Leadership Learning Set
Andrew is supporting the senior leaders from the Council, NHS, voluntary sector, education and police to work together, build relationships and develop a collective understanding of the challenges for the people of Slough and build a creative, joined up response.

Urgent and emergency care improvement programmes
Philip has worked as a clinical associate and adviser with many acute hospital Trusts helping to embed national and local initiatives to improve patient flow from the front of the hospital to the back door. He works closely with local clinicians, helping them to introduce these initiatives and ensuring they are sustainable. Examples of areas he has focused on include enhanced rapid assessment and treatment in ED, same day emergency care, patient transfers, board rounds, discharge planning and better use of the discharge lounge.

Wessex Health Partners Business Case
Wessex Health Partners will be a new pan-regional partnership of Universities and NHS organisations across Hampshire and Isle of Wight and Dorset that will connect research and innovation to the biggest challenges in these systems and increase development and adoption.  We produced the business case to secure the commitment and funding from these organisations to establish the partnership, which is on track to launch in Spring 2023.

Royal Marsden Hospital specialist cancer care for children and young people
We provided support for The Royal Marsden and St George’s University Hospital joint proposal to be the provider of specialist cancer for children and young people in South London and South East England.  We worked with the directors, clinicians and operational teams to design and describe a new joint centre.

Portsmouth University Hospital and Isle of Wight Trust Partnership
Consilium supported this important new Trust partnership.  Early work helped establish the Partnership governance and develop a new high level joint strategy.  Philip and Andrew worked with the clinical teams to develop joint clinical strategies and implementation plans in ED, Medicine, Surgery, Critical Care, Stroke and Cancer.

Frimley ICS 5 year strategy
We provided the external support and advice to Frimley Health and Care, a first wave ICS, as they developed their first  5-year strategy.  The process included innovative use of data and intelligence on population health needs and large-scale public and staff engagement.   The new strategy, Creating Healthier Communities, is based around six new strategic ambitions with a focus on the relationship with local people through the development of new ‘community deals’.

Helping Trusts in Wessex become more innovative
Clinical and technological innovation provides opportunities to improve care and reduce cost – but Trust’s success at doing this is variable.  Working with Wessex AHSN, Andrew worked with five Trusts to review how they identify, adopt and implement clinical and technological innovation and provide support to improve this.  Andrew wrote a well-received overarching paper ‘Improving the adoption of innovation in acute trusts’

Trust clinical strategy
Philip has worked as a clinical adviser with acute Trusts to support them describe and develop their clinical models of care and their future strategies. Conversations with large numbers of clinicians creates a picture of the services as they are now and captures opportunities and innovations to inform the description of how those services could look in the future.

Whole health system redesign
Philip has worked as a clinical adviser to help describe the options for a whole health system redesign, negotiating the way through those difficult conversations to find a model which delivers the best care for patients and a model that is sustainable in the long term.

Moorfields@ network
Andrew undertook a detailed review of the 32 sites that make up the Moorfields@ network – the largest and most developed in the NHS.  Working closely with the Divisional management teams, the strategic contribution of each site was assessed and recommendations made.  We left behind a network review tool that could be repeated annually.
